Abhinav Bindra will go down in Indian sporting history as the country's first individual Olympic gold medalist.
Abhinav Bindra's gold medal in the men's 10m air rifle at the 2008 Beijing Olympics was the pinnacle of a stellar sporting career that included a World Championship gold and several medals at the Commonwealth and Asian Games.
The future Olympic champion, who was born on September 28, 1982, in Dehradun, started his sporting career after being inspired by the shooters he saw on television.
He was soon rewarded for his efforts. As a 15-year-old, the Indian shooter competed in the Commonwealth Games in 1998, and then went on to compete in the Sydney Olympics in 2000 as the youngest Indian athlete.
